Follow a bill or a project
Every bill page on Before It's Law now has a Follow button, and so does every project on the Projects page.
Give your email address, then confirm with the link we send. What you follow is then listed in the weekly brief we email you. One click unsubscribes.
We keep your address and the fact that you follow it, and nothing else about you.
A brief for where you live
Type your ZIP code in the box at the top of this brief. It finds your county and the state Senate and House districts in it.
The brief then shows the projects sited in your county, and the bills whose sponsors or votes came from members for those districts.
It runs in your browser. Your ZIP code is never stored or sent.
What each bill does, in plain words
Each bill page now shows the bill's summary. It is written by Legislative Council Staff, the legislature's nonpartisan staff, and we print it word for word.
Of the 7,310 bills on the site, every bill of the 16 sessions from 2016 to 2026, 7,035 have one. A bill with no staff summary says so.
One example is HB16-1002.
Newer fiscal notes
A fiscal note is the legislature's own estimate of what a bill costs.
On 23 September we took the notes again for the 139 bills whose notes had changed since August. Each bill page says when its notes were taken.
From now on we collect new and revised notes every week from January to May, while bills are moving, and on the first Monday of each month the rest of the year. They reach the site once we have checked them.
A page you can hand to someone
Each bill page now has Copy link, QR code and Print. Print makes a one-page sheet of the bill.
A phone can scan the QR code to open the same page. Project cards can be printed too.
The project map zooms
The project map on the dashboard now zooms and pans. It has plus, minus and reset buttons, and on a phone you can pinch.
Where pins crowd together, a tap now opens the project you pointed at.
Help, and a way to tell us
A new Help page walks through the site in short narrated videos, one per topic.
The dashboard now asks, "Found an error on this page?" and links to a way to tell us.
The legislature is not in session
The General Assembly is between sessions. Its 2026 session ended in May, and the next one opens on 11 January 2027.
The General Assembly recorded no votes between 18 September 2026 and 24 September 2026. Its most recent recorded vote was on 13 May 2026.
Every recorded vote since 2016 is at Before It's Law.
